DESCRIPTION:Recording \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIs LTC Prepared for the Next Pandemic?\n\n\n\nDr. James Ayukekbong\, Editor-in-Chief\, Canadian Journal of Infection Control \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nObjectives \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLong-term care homes (LTCHs) experienced the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic due to several factors. Namely\, gaps in facility design\, inadequate infection prevention and control (IPAC) systems and overall operational challenges. For example\, the shared accommodation settings in many LTCHs facilitate the transmission of infections among residents. Most residents in these settings\, because of advanced age\, suffer from cognitive decline which leads to challenges in their ability to adhere to IPAC precautions and this would contribute significantly to the spread of the infection within the home.
