Outline: | Objectives: - Understand that respiratory medical devices are ubiquitous, and are used in both clinical and domestic settings globally - Discuss our work on understanding what microbes are present on medical devices as they arrive from the manufacturer, if they are sterile or simply low microbial burden - Discuss scenarios/ cases that illustrate: how such devices, in cystic fibrosis or COPD settings, may become colonised with potential pathogens; how and why cleaning may not happen or may not be effective including involvement of water source at home and in hospitals; and an example of a novel device to overcome this problem |
