The New Zealand Health Quality and Safety Commission recently completed a point prevalence survey for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in hospitals. The most common HAIs, and their microbiology, will be presented along with the prevalence of intravenous and urinary catheter use. Targets for quality improvement interventions will be discussed.
