Objectives

  • Explain why behaviour change competence is a critical requirement for all infection prevention and control (IPC) professionals.
  • Describe the COM-B model and how capability, opportunity and motivation can influence IPC behaviours.
  • Apply a structured behavioural approach to identify the key barriers and facilitators influencing a specific IPC behaviour in a real-world healthcare setting.
  • Recognise how findings from the JAMRAI 7.4 behaviour change pilot can be used to move beyond education and feedback and inform targeted, multimodal interventions addressing environmental, organisational, social and behavioural determinants of IPC practice.
